Flu epidemic kills over 170 in Ukraine — health ministry

According to the ministry, more than 3.2 million people are infected with flu, 62.9% are children under 17 years

KIEV, February 1. /TASS/. The death toll from a flu outbreak in Ukraine has reached 171, the Health Ministry’s press service said on Monday.

"Since the beginning of the epidemic, a total of 171 flu-related deaths have been registered in Ukraine, including two lethal cases among children," the statement said.

The Odessa Region in Ukraine’s south where 33 death cases were reported is hit by the epidemic most.

According to the ministry, more than 3.2 million people are infected with flu, 62.9% are children under 17 years.

Health Minister Alexander Kvitashvili said on January 26 that epidemic thresholds are exceeded in 18 regions.
