Ukrainian forces shell Donetsk airport overnight

The Kiev forces carried out the shelling from the positions in the villages of Pesky and Opytnoye using mortars, infantry combat vehicles, grenade launchers and small arms

MOSCOW, January 29. /TASS/. Kiev forces shelled the territory of the embattled Donetsk airport and the Volvo Center, a source in the law enforcement agencies in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic said on Friday.

"The shelling of the airport began at around 9.00 p.m. [6.00 p.m. GMT]. Later the Volvo Center came under fire from the Ukrainian units," the source told the Donetsk news agency.

The Kiev forces carried out the shelling from the positions in the villages of Pesky and Opytnoye using mortars, infantry combat vehicles, grenade launchers and small arms.

The DPR defense ministry said the Ukrainian forces shelled the Donetsk republic’s territory along the contact line 148 times using tanks, 82-mm and 120-mm mortars, infantry combat vehicles, anti-tank guided missiles, grenade launchers and small arms.

In mid-January, the Contact Group on settling the crisis in Ukraine’s southeast backed the initiative of Russia’s envoy to the Minsk talks Boris Gryzlov on declaring ceasefire. This is the seventh attempt since autumn 2014 to fully observe the ceasefire in Donbass.

The "silence regime" was introduced from midnight on January 14. However, Kiev forces have repeatedly violated the ceasefire. At the latest meeting of the Contact Group on January 27, the sides voiced concerns that the ceasefire is not observed in Ukraine's south-east.
