Ukraine probes German lawmaker’s ‘illegal visit’ to Donbas

Andrey Gunko could face up to five years in jail

KIEV, January 20. /TASS/. Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) has launched an investigation into "illegal visit" of German MP and member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) to the Donbas territory not controlled by Kiev, a Ukrainian lawmaker said on Wednesday.

Andrey Gunko "has several times visited the region where the anti-terrorism operation is being carried out without having obtained permission of the Ukrainian authorities," the member of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada, Georgy Logvinsky, wrote on his Facebook page.

Under the Ukrainian law, Gunko could face up to five years in jail if convicted.

Previously, all similar investigations carried out by the SBU led to banning the entry to the country.
