BEIJING, January 13. /TASS/. China and Russia play an important positive role in global affairs, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hong Lei said on Wednesday, expressing hope that the US will also contribute to peace in the world.

"China and Russia play an important active role in serious international affairs of global and regional character, this is a well-known fact. We also hope that the US will play an active constructive role to contribute to peace, stability and development worldwide," Hong Lei said.

The diplomat commented on US President Barack Obama’s last State of the Nation address delivered on Wednesday. Obama said the international community considers the United States as the global leader, not Russia or China.

"When it comes to every important international issue, people of the world do not look to Beijing or Moscow to lead — they call us," the US president said.
