Dialog is needed for de-escalation in Persian Gulf — Foreign Ministers of RF and Indonesia

MOSCOW, January 5. /TASS/. Disagreements in the Persian Gulf area should be settled in a peaceful way. Such an opinion was expressed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Indonesia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi in a telephone conversation, Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

"The parties expressed opinions regarding the ways towards de-escalation of recently emerged tension in the Persian Gulf area. Confidence was expressed that existing disagreements should be overcome through a dialog," the Ministry said.

Indonesia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed Jakarta’s interest in cooperating with Russia for the purpose of preventing the split in the Islamic world, the Russian diplomatic authority said.

The ministers spoke in favor of more active engagement of the potential of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in settling the existing situation, Russian Foreign Ministry said.
