Six killed, 100 injured in massive earthquake in northeast India

Walls of many buildings have also collapsed

NEW DELHI, January 4. /TASS/. At least six people were killed and 100 injured in the Indian state of Manipur when a 6.7-magnitude earthquake hit northeastern India early Monday, The Times of India reported on its website.

"There is large-scale damage in Imphal with many houses reporting huge cracks. Walls of many buildings have also collapsed," the report said.

"According to the Indian Meteorological department, the epicentre was in Tamenglong district, in Manipur and state government officials said the epicentre was at Noney village in Tamenglong around 35 kms from Imphal," it said.

"Principal Secretary Suresh Babu told TOI that the government is assessing the situation and providing all help to the victims," the report said.
