WASHINGTON, December 28. /TASS/. US officials and military analysts say the Russian mission in Syria is successful and has helped stabilize the country’s government, Reuters news agency said on Monday.
"I think it's indisputable that the Assad regime, with Russian military support, is probably in a safer position than it was," said a senior administration official, who requested anonymity.
Five other US officials concurred with the view that the Russian mission has been mostly successful so far.
Russia launched an operation against the Islamic State (IS) and Jebhat al-Nusra terrorist groups in Syria at the request of Syrian President Bashar Assad on September 30. The international coalition led by the US started delivering airstrikes at the positions of the IS in September 2014.
