DPR defense ministry: Ukrainian military shell Donetsk western outskirts

Previous reports said that the Ukrainian military had violated the ceasefire in Donbas 23 times over the past 24 hours

MOSCOW, November 23 /TASS/. The Ukrainian military shelled the Staromikhailovka settlement in Donbas, the Defense Ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) said on Monday.

"The Ukrainian military opened fire at Staromikhailovka settlement at around 19:30 Moscow time. The enemy fire damaged the roof of a housing dwelling on 102, Lenin Street," the Donetsk News Agency quoted the Defense Ministry’s spokesperson as saying.

The DPR Defense Ministry noted that the fire was coming from the Ukrainian positions in Krasnogorovka and that 82 mm mortars, infantry combat vehicles, anti-aircraft gun vehicles, grenade launchers and small arms were used.

The Ukrainian military shelled the line of contact in the directions of Gorlovka and Donetsk and populated localities in the south of the DPR, the Defense Ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic told TASS earlier on Monday.

"The village of Mikhailovka to the south of Gorlovka, the Spartak village, the outskirts of a Volvo Centre located to the north of Donetsk and the Krasnyi Oktyabr village in the south of the DPR came under the enemy fire," the Donetsk News Agency quoted the defense ministry’s spokesperson as saying.

The shelling started at around 19:00 and lasted for more than an hour. The Ukrainian side used mortar launchers with a caliber of 82 millimeters; grenade launchers and small arms.

Previous reports said that the Ukrainian military had violated the ceasefire in Donbas 23 times over the past 24 hours.

An agreement reached by the Contact Group for Ukraine settlement in Minsk introduced a complete ceasefire in Donbas as of September 1. However, the DPR Defense Ministry has noted serious aggravation in the situation in the DPR in recent months. The shelling of the northern and western parts of Donetsk and outskirts became more frequent and intensive in the past months.

The authorities of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) have informed the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine of the shelling of DPR’s territory from the Ukrainian side’s positions on Monday evening, the press service of DPR’s parliament speaker Denis Pushilin said.
