CAIRO, November 12. /TASS/. Nine people have have been killed in a terrorist attack in the north of Egypt’s Sinai on Thursday. Local media reported that that an explosion rocked the city of Al-Arish at night.
According to preliminary information, a group of militants opened fire at a residential house and later blew up a car near it. Most of the victims were members of one family, and two of them were children under three.
After ousting Islamists in summer 2013, Egypt was engulfed by a wave of violence, and North Sinai has turned into a hot spot. Egyptian Armed Forces together with the Interior Ministry have been conducting anti-terrorist operations there for the last two years. An emergency regime and curfew is in forces in North Sinai.
Security agencies say that most attacks in Sinai are carried out by the Ansar Bait al-Maqdis group which is linked to the Islamic State terrorist organization.
