Nine people killed in terrorist attack in North Sinai

Security agencies say that most attacks in Sinai are carried out by the Ansar Bait al-Maqdis group which is linked to the Islamic State terrorist organization

CAIRO, November 12. /TASS/. Nine people have have been killed in a terrorist attack in the north of Egypt’s Sinai on Thursday. Local media reported that that an explosion rocked the city of Al-Arish at night.

According to preliminary information, a group of militants opened fire at a residential house and later blew up a car near it. Most of the victims were members of one family, and two of them were children under three.

After ousting Islamists in summer 2013, Egypt was engulfed by a wave of violence, and North Sinai has turned into a hot spot. Egyptian Armed Forces together with the Interior Ministry have been conducting anti-terrorist operations there for the last two years. An emergency regime and curfew is in forces in North Sinai.
