Russian emergencies ministry’s plane evacuates 50 Russian, CIS citizens from Yemen

The Il-76 took off from Sana’a at 13:20 Moscow time on Friday and made a stopover in the Egyptian city of Aswan for refueling

MOSCOW, November 7. /TASS/. A Russian emergencies ministry’s Ilyushin-76 plane has evacuated 50 Russians and citizens of a number of CIS states from Yemen who fled the country over the armed conflict there, a TASS correspondent reported early on Saturday from a Moscow airport.

The Il-76 took off from Sana’a at 13:20 Moscow time on Friday and made a stopover in the Egyptian city of Aswan for refueling.

The plane was initially scheduled to leave Sana’a on Thursday but was delayed due to a failure in air traffic control services, Russian Charge d’Affaires in Yemen Andrei Chernovol said.

Earlier, this plane delivered more than 20 tonnes of humanitarian cargoes, including food products and tents for 20 and 30 people used by the Yemeni authorities in refugee camps.

Russia is delivering humanitarian aid to Yemen at the instruction of the government and the foreign ministry. It was the third humanitarian flight to that country in the past several months.
