Ukraine’s Donetsk Republic accuses Kiev of 23 truce breaches over 24 hours

MOSCOW, October 25. /TASS/. The Ukrainian military shelled the territory controlled by the Donetsk People’s Republic [DPR] 23 times over the past twenty-four hours, the DPR Defense Ministry said on Sunday.

"The Ukrainian military violated the ceasefire regime 23 times. Mortar fire was opened from the positions of the 93rd brigade of the Ukrainian armed forces from the settlement of Opytnoye and the Butovskaya coalmine against the settlement of Spartak [the Yasinovatsky district of the DPR, part of the Donetsk agglomeration] and the Donetsk airport. Over 20 mines were fired against them and these areas were also shelled from infantry fighting vehicles," the Donetsk News Agency quoted the DPR Defense Ministry as saying.

The Trudovskiye neighborhood in Donetsk, the village of Zhabunki [Zhabichevo] and the outskirts of Volvo-Center on the edge of Donetsk also came under the Ukrainian military’s fire, the DPR Defense Ministry said.

Meanwhile, the press office of Kiev’s military operation in east Ukraine accused the militia of provocations.

"Members of illegal armed formations are demonstrating aggression and conducting provocative fire against the positions of the anti-terror operation forces, using small arms, large-caliber machineguns and grenade launchers," the press office said.

Under an agreement reached during talks between representatives of the Ukrainian authorities and the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics in Minsk, a complete ceasefire regime was established on the engagement line in the Donbass region from September 1.

The ceasefire regime was a condition for the commencement of a new round of weaponry pullout in accordance with the agreement initialed in the Contact Group on the Ukraine crisis settlement on September 29.
