Local resident detained in Kyrgyzstan for recruiting people to combat operation zones

According to the information provided by the Kyrgyz authorities, about 400 Kyrgyz nationals have left the country to take part in hostilities in Syria and Iraq fighting for terrorist groups

BISHKEK, October. 23 /TASS/. Security forces in Kyrgyzstan’s southern Osh region have detained a 48-year-old local resident who recruited and sent people to combat operation areas, Kyrgyz State Committee for National Security said on Friday.

"A citizen of our republic who is an emissary of an international terrorist organization has been detained in the course of investigative operations aimed at countering terrorism and religious extremism," the committee’s public relations department said. The person’s name is not disclosed. "The detainee recruited and shipped abroad citizens of our republic for taking part in armed groups," the committee added. A criminal case has been opened on a mercenary activity charge.
