SOCHI, October 22. /TASS/. Former French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin has suggested holding a regional conference on resolving the Syrian conflict and creating a contact group to search for the way out of the long-running crisis.
The French politician is participating in the Valdai International Discussion Club in Russia’s Black Sea resort of Sochi. The forum brings together political and public figures, distinguished foreign and Russian experts.
"In the Syrian crisis, we have no necessary tool for the successful search for how to resolve the conflict peacefully. That’s why I support the idea of a regional conference and also call for creating a contact group," de Villepin said on the sidelines of the forum.
This contact group on Syria should involve major regional and international players to hold a dialogue on a permanent basis devoted to the peaceful settlement, the politician said.
De Villepin also stressed the need for international cooperation to find the way out of the crisis. "Russia cannot do everything alone," he added.
