Terrorist groups in Syria hold talks on unification against government forces

The commanders of several large units of the Jabhat Al-Nusra terrorist group have started negotiations with the Islamic State commanders

MOSCOW, October 21. /TASS/. The Islamic State (IS) terrorist group is in talks with other terrorist groups on unification against the Syrian government forces, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov told reporters on Wednesday.

"The communications reconnaissance data suggest that the commanders of several large units of the Jabhat Al-Nusra terrorist group have started negotiations with the Islamic State commanders on the unification of forces for containing the advancing Syrian government troops," Konashenkov said.

It was also reported that an air strike was carried out by Russian warplanes against the site of gathering of leaders the terrorist groups operating in the area of the town of Sarmin in Syria’s Idlib province.

According to the spokesman, "on October 19, intercepted radio exchanges provided information about the planned gathering of the leaders of armed groups" operating in the area of Sarmin. Konashenkov noted that "after additional verification of this information through other channels, identifying the time and place of the meeting, a decision was made to carry out a strike on the site of gathering of terrorist leaders."
