MOSCOW, October 1. /TASS/. Understanding the situation in the Arab countries will help Russia to achieve success in its fight against terrorism in the Middle East, Syrian President Bashar Assad’s advisor on political issues Bouthaina Shaaban told RT on Thursday.
"I see — and this feeling is shared by all Arabs — that Russia understands what is going on in Syria and in the Arab world in general. It observers the norms of international law and respects the right of our country for sovereignty. That is why I am convinced that Russians will achieve success where the West failed," Shaaban said.
"I really want the West to fully review its policy toward Syria," the advisor added noting that the problem was not in Assad from the beginning, and that he was not the target of military actions.
"When destroying Libya, Western politicians said Qaddafi was to blame. When destroying Iraq, they pointed to Saddam Hussein and weapons of mass destruction. All these statements disseminated through the media only serve as an excuse to destroy our countries, our civilizations, our peoples," Shaaban said.
