Ukrainian MP Igor Mosiychuk embarks on hunger strike over his arrest

KIEV, September 18. /TASS/. Igor Mosiychuk, a lawmaker of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada, or parliament, has embarked on a hunger strike after a Kiev district court ruled on Friday to place him under arrest till November 15.

"I declare officially that from this very moment I will be taking only water," he said after judge Vladimir Karaban read out the court verdict.

On Thursday, September 17, the Verkhovna Rada gave its consent to open a criminal case and arrest Mosiychuk on corruption charges. He was detained in the Rada building at taken to a detention centre.
