Self-proclaimed Donetsk republic gets new parliament chairman

Denis Pushilin is the republic's envoy to the Contact Group on Ukraine

MOSCOW, September 11. /TASS/. Chief negotiator of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) in the Contact Group on Ukraine’s crisis settlement, Denis Pushilin, has been elected chairman of the DPR People’s Council, the Donetsk news agency reported on Friday.

"A total of 76 deputies voted in support of Denis Pushilin’s election as chairman of the DPR People’s Council," the agency said.

The former chairman of the People’s Council, Andrey Purgin, was dismissed on September 4 by the decision of the majority of DPR lawmakers. Denis Pushilin became acting speaker, in accordance with the rules of procedure.

Purgin was dismissed for appointing Alexey Alexandrov as chief of the DPR parliament’s administrative office. The Council deputies regarded this as violation of the parliamentary procedure rules.
