Three dozen members of anti-government armed group detained in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, September 7. /TASS/. Tajikistan’s law enforcement agencies have detained another 14 members of an armed anti-government group under rebel General Abdukhalim Nazarzoda during a security sweep in Romit Gorge, the Interior Ministry has told TASS.

"In the course of the special operation that lasted from September 4 through September 7 a total of 31 members of that group have been detained, and 13 others liquidated," the Interior Ministry’s spokesman said. A large amount of weapons and ammunition, including 20 automatic rifles, two machine-guns, several live hand grenades and several thousand cartridges were seized.

At a meeting with residents of the city of Vakhdat near the gorge (20 kilometers east of Dushanbe) Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rakhmon promised that the security sweep would be over within days and the "criminals will be properly punished."
