Kyrgyzstan tightens security along border with Tajikistan

The units of Kyrgyz border guards deployed to the areas near the border are on alert after nine police officers were killed in the attacks on Tajikistan’s Dushanbe and Vahdat on Friday

BISHKEK, September 7. /TASS/. Kyrgyzstan has stepped up security measures along the border with its neighboring Central Asian republic Tajikistan that was hit by deadly attacks on police last week , the country’s border service said on Monday.

"A whole range of measures on ensuring security in joint parts of the state border with Tajikistan have been taken," the head of the border service’s press service, Gulmira Borubayeva, told TASS.

The units of Kyrgyz border guards deployed to the areas near the border are on alert, she said, adding that more border patrol units have been also sent there.

The checkpoints on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border continue operating as normal. Kyrgyzstan is monitoring the situation in the adjacent areas with Tajikistan, the official said.

Nine police officers were killed in the attacks on Tajikistan’s capital Dushanbe and the neighboring city of Vahdat on Friday.
