Ukraine’s Security Service seizes arsenal in Luhansk Region

KIEV, August 31. /TASS/. The Security Service of Ukraine [SBU] has reported that it has seized two large arsenals of weapons in the area of Kiev’s "antiterrorism operation" in the country’s east.

"According to preliminary information, former servicemen of a volunteer battalion planned to take deep into Ukraine two large batches of unaccounted weapons and ammunition," the SBU’s press release said.

In line with the document, SBU officers "discovered, near the village of Bakhmutovka of the Novoaidar District of the Luhansk Region, a vehicle carrying an underbarrel grenade launcher, TNT blocks, antipersonnel mines and hand grenades of various types, bullets and magazines for automatic weapons etc."

The second batch of weapons was discovered in a cache in the village of Polovinkino of the Luhansk Region’s Starobelsk District. In it, SBU officers found "33 kilograms of TNT in blocks, three automatic mounted grenade launchers, machineguns, Kalashnikov assault rifles, 40 hand antitank grenade launchers, boxes with cartridges for small arms of various calibers, grenades of different modifications, seven projectiles for a Grad multiple launch rocket system."

The military prosecutor’s office of the Luhansk garrison launched criminal proceedings over the facts, the press release said.
