BANGKOK, August 17. /TASS/. At least 27 people, including several foreigners, have been killed in an explosion in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, the Nation TV channel reported on Monday.

The bomb exploded at the Erawan Hindu shrine, a popular tourist site in central Bangkok.

At least 80 people were injured and taken to a nearby hospital, police told TASS.

Thailand's Defense Minister Prawit Wongsuwan said the attack "intended to destroy the economy and tourism" in the country.

Police have blocked off the scene and are now working to defuse the second bomb found at the site of the tragedy.
