Russian diplomat, Syrian opposition leader discuss Syrian settlement prospects

MOSCOW, August 11. /TASS/. Prospects for the Syrian settlement were in focus of talks between Russian President’s envoy for the Middle East and North Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and leader of the Syrian Popular Front for Change and Liberation Qadri Jamil, the Russian foreign ministry said on Tuesday.

"The sides exchanged views on the prospects for the settlement of the Syrian crisis by means of a broad intra-Syrian dialogue on the basis of the Geneva communique of June 30, 2012," the ministry said.

"In this context, they discussed the issue of invigorating the work of the group on monitoring the implementation of decision taken at the Moscow meetings of the Syrian opposition, who signed an appeal to United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on April 7 in Moscow," the ministry said.
