MOSCOW, August 10. /TASS/. Former USSR President Mikhail Gorbachev has said Monday that the end of the Cold War has become a global achievement, not US victory.

"The Cold War was over, we put an end to it together. In fact, it was a common victory shared by all peoples," Gorbachev told RT TV channel noting that now "Americans are saying: ‘It’s not like this. We won, we won the Cold War, we made this’."

Today the United States is returning to its "old policy of pressure" because it needs an enemy. Such behavior should be stopped "in a friendly manner", Gorbachev continued. "American can lead, but only in partnership with other countries because it is the only way to lead in the modern world," the former Soviet president said.

The US "lost its way" by creating a "super-empire" and trying to make the world unipolar, he said. "The United States needs its own perestroika," Gorbachev concluded.
