Russian embassy in Mali does not confirm death of Russian citizen in hotel attack

UN also confirmed that one of MINUSMA’s contract employees had died while storming the hotel

UNITED NATIONS, August 8. /TASS/. A Russian, a Ukrainian and two citizens of South Africa employed by the UN were rescued on Saturday from a hotel in the Malian town of Sevare, Stephane Dujarric, the official spokesperson for the UN Secretary General told TASS on Saturday.

A group of armed militants seized the hotel on Friday and units of the national Armed Forces stormed it on Saturday.

He said four workers of a company contracted by MINUSMA (the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali) were rescued at 04:30 local time on Saturday. They had been hiding inside the building.

UN also confirmed that one of MINUSMA’s contract employees had died while storming the hotel.
