DPR hands over Ukrainian prisoners to Kiev — ombudsperson

Verkhovna Rada’s human rights ombudsperson says 20 prisoners were handed over

KIEV, August 5. /TASS/. The self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) has handed over to the Ukrainian side on Wednesday 20 prisoners who remained in custody because of the hostilities in the Donbas region, the press service of the Verkhovna Rada’s human rights ombudsperson Valeria Lutkovskaya said.

"We managed to take away from the Donetsk pretrial detention center 20 prisoners, some of them were on their way to their detention facilities via the Donetsk detention center or arrived there to take part in forensic investigations and remained in the detention center because of the beginning of hostilities," the report said.

The press service noted that the handover of first 9 Ukrainian prisoners had taken place on July 8.
