Seoul, Tokyo resume military dialogue - South Korean Defense Ministry

The sides are expected to discuss defense policy and cooperation in the issues of mutual interest

SEOUL, August 3. /TASS/. South Korea and Japan will hold on August 5 the 21st round of talks on defense policy in Seoul for the first time in nearly two and a half years, the South Korean Ministry of National Defense reported on Monday.

"The talks will become an important step in the resumption of the military dialogue," the ministry said.

The sides are expected to discuss "defense policy and cooperation in the issues of mutual interest."

All contacts between Seoul and Tokyo in this area were suspended a year ago due to deteriorating bilateral ties caused by differing views on the history of the Japanese occupation of Korea between 1910 and 1945. The previous round of talks between the defense ministries of the two countries was held in Tokyo in March 2013.
