Interpol halts search for Ukraine’s former president Yanukovych — lawyers

Viktor Yanukovych is no longer on the wanted list

KIEV, July 21. /TASS/. Interpol has halted search for Ukraine’s former president Viktor Yanukovych, Joseph Hage Aaronson law firm said on Tuesday.

"Yanukovych is no longer on the wanted list," lawyers representing the Yanukovych family said in a statement.

Interpol cancelled halted search for Yanukovych and withdrew his name from the wanted list after lawyers filed a petition stating that the case against former Ukrainian president is politically motivated.

Interpol put Ukraine's ousted president Viktor Yanukovych on wanted list in January on suspicion of embezzlement and misappropriation in huge amounts as part of a criminal group. Interpol issued the Red Notice for Yanukovych. The Red Notice is the instrument to seek the location and arrest of a wanted person with a view to his/her extradition.
