HANOI, July 20. /TASS/. Vietnam’s National Defense Minister General Phung Quang Thanh has expressed indignation with DPA report about his alleged death, Deputy Lieutenant General of the General Staff of Vietnam’s People’s Army Vo Van Tuan told journalists on Monday.
"I just spoke with General Phung Quang Thanh on the phone, his health is alright. The minister was indignant with reports of the German news agency [DPA]," Vo Van Tuan said.
On Sunday, DPA published a report saying that Vietnam’s national defense minister died in France, where he was undergoing medical treatment. Citing an anonymous military source, the news agency said the minister lost his life to cancer aged 66.
Vietnam’s national defense minister has been undergoing treatment for lung problems in France since the end of June. The Central Commission of Health Care fir Senior Officials reported earlier that Phung Quang Thanh underwent a surgery and is recovering. After post-surgery rehabilitation, the minister will return to Vietnam - most likely, by the end on July.
