MOSCOW, July 2. /TASS/. Kiev uses foreign mercenaries against the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), DPR Defence Ministry spokesman Eduard Basurin said on Thursday.
Basurin noted that among them were "Croats, Poles, Lithuanians, Norwegians, Danes and even Germans" who are fighting with the Ukrainian forces against the Donetsk and Luhansk republics.
"Someone issues orders [to open fire on residential areas], someone pays money for that," the Donetsk news agency quotes Basurin as saying. "Even those who call themselves idea-driven want to be paid."
According to Basurin, foreign mercenaries are particularly numerous in the Mariupol area.
