MOSCOW, July 2. /TASS/. The Middle East peace process has reached an impasse, the Arab League should be actively involved in the resumption of the political process between Palestine and Israel, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told the league’s Secretary-General Nabil Elaraby on Thursday.

"The number of problems is not declining. They are Iraq, Syria, Lybia, Yemen, the Middle East settlement, which is a matter of deep concern for us because of the impasse it is currently in," Lavrov said. "We would like the Arab League to take an active part in resolving these problems, including the resumption of the political process between Palestine and Israel."

Lavrov noted that relations between Russia and the Arab League were developing steadily, the second session of the Russian-Arab Cooperation Forum was held in Khartoum (Sudan) last December. "We will be preparing for the forum’s third session," Russia’s top diplomat added.

"The agenda is quite extensive. It includes economic and humanitarian projects, dialogue on the key political problems in the region," Lavrov said.
