ST. PETERSBURG, June 19. /TASS/. Egypt is considering an opportunity of international borrowings in rubles to pay for grain supplies, Minister of Industry Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour told TASS on Friday.
The minister said there is an opportunity to borrow in rubles instead of dollars and such an opportunity is discussed. Everything will depend on implementation of the idea of paying for grain supplies in rubles, he added.
Egypt received offers from several Russian grain exporters to pay for supplies in rubles, the minister said.
Egypt is the largest grain importer across the globe. The country annually imports 4.5 mln tonnes of grain for Russia amounting to $1.2 bln.
