Ukrainian opposition activist beaten up — Communist Party

KIEV, June 18. /TASS/. One of the leaders of the left opposition in Ukraine's northwestern Volyn region, chief of the region’s Russian community Alexander Kononovich was beaten in the city of Lutsk during the foundation meeting of the local branch of the all-Ukrainian public organization Left March on Wednesday, the official website of the Ukrainian Communist Party said on Thursday.

"Kononovich has been taken to hospital, according to the preliminary diagnosis, he has brain concussion and a prolapse of left kidney," the statement says. 

The party’s leader Pyotr Simonenko will brief international human rights experts on the committed crime during his meeting with UN representatives in Geneva on Thursday.

"The Communist Party leader will inform the world public about the critical human rights situation in Ukraine, in particular, about rampant Nazism, in the framework of the session of the UN Human Rights Committee," the statement says.
