Kiev’s plans to impose full blockade on Donbas to hit children and elderly — politician

This initiative attests to the fact that Kiev is not even trying to launch the negotiation process with the Donetsk and Luhansk republics, leader of the Ukrainian Choice public movement says

KIEV, June 10. /TASS/. Members of the Verkhovna Rada are determined to impose a complete food, transport and financial blockade on the Donbas region, leader of the Ukrainian Choice public movement Viktor Medvedchuk wrote on its website on Wednesday.

"If this bill [on amending Ukraine’s law "On ensuring the rights and freedoms of citizens and the legal regime on the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine"] is passed, the affected regions will stop receiving staple commodities, foodstuffs and even medicines. An exception is made for humanitarian aid only," he wrote.

According to Medvedchuk, this means that "peaceful Ukrainian citizens — women, children, the elderly who by virtue of certain circumstances have to stay" in the military operation area, "will be left by the state to their own devices".

He noted that "this initiative of lawmakers attests to the fact that Kiev is not even trying to launch the negotiation process with the Donetsk and Luhansk republics."

In earlier developments, a bill to amend Ukraine’s law "On ensuring the rights and freedoms of citizens and the legal regime on the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine" was submitted to the Verkhovna Rada, which is being considered by the relevant Rada committee.
