BERLIN, June 4. /TASS/. Germany has urged Russia to take steps that would open the way for Moscow to the Group of Eight (G8) format as that would simplify many things, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said on Thursday after a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Pavlo Klimkin.

The German minister said he would like Russia to help create the conditions, in particular, through the implementation of the Minsk agreements, in order to look for ways of returning to the old G8 format, which would simplify many things. According to Steinmeier, cooperation with Moscow in the Syrian crisis settlement is also important.

He said the West could not be interested in the opposite.
