Cooperation with US possible only in spheres serving Russia’s interests, says Lavrov

"We will maintain cooperation [with the US] not because it wants to work with us in a particular sphere but because these concrete spheres of contacts also serve our interests," Lavrov said

MOSCOW, May 28. /TASS/. Russia does not refuse to cooperate with Washington but will work together in spheres that suit the country’s interests, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Thursday.

"We cannot proceed from the assumption that the United States will kindly invite us to cooperate on some issues while on other issues it will regard itself as being entitled to punish us as it says," Lavrov told Rossiya-24 television news channel.

"We will certainly not take up the posture of the offended and we will not refuse to cooperate. But we will maintain cooperation [with the US] not because it wants to work with us in a particular sphere but because these concrete spheres of contacts also serve our interests," he said.
