Ukraine, NATO officials discuss military ties, Ukraine's defence sector reform

The sides paid particular attention to cooperation with NATO as one of the key directions to ensure national security of Ukraine and reform its defense sector

KIEV, May 26. /TASS/. Ukraine’s Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak and NATO Assistant Secretary General Thrasyvoulos Stamatopoulos discussed in Kiev on Tuesday ways to ensure Ukraine’s security.

"Joint plans for cooperation have been determined. The sides paid particular attention to cooperation with NATO as one of the key directions to ensure national security of Ukraine and reform its defense sector," the press service of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry reported.

It quoted the minister as saying Ukraine pinned hopes on a session of the NATO-Ukraine Commission at the defence ministerial level, scheduled for June 25. A session of the joint working group for a military reform is due on Wednesday.

The NATO official marked progress in the reforming of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, noting that although there was no time for a delay with reforms, they were to be carried out qualitatively.
