Moscow urges more active work of BRICS partners on IMF reform

"The issue of redistribution of quotas has been approved," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister said, adding that "unfortunately, an IMF reform is blocked by Washington"

MOSCOW, May 26. /TASS/. Russia urges its partners in the BRICS group of nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) to more actively work on a reform of the International Monetary Fund, which may be a top focus at a BRICS summit in Ufa (Russia’s republic of Bashkortostan in the southern part of the Urals Mountains) and at an informal meeting the BRICS leaders plan on the sidelines of a G20 summit, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said on Tuesday.

"This matter is constantly brought up at the level of leaders and finance ministers," Ryabkov said.

"The issue of redistribution of quotas has been approved," he continued, adding that "unfortunately, an IMF reform is blocked by Washington".

He said Russia would seize an opportunity of the summit in Ufa and next events, including a G20 summit in Antalya in November "to not just attract attention but involve colleagues in the group in more active work".
