MOSCOW, May 25. /TASS/. Tehran believes that Saudi Arabia’s actions in Yemen are a strategic mistake, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said on Monday.

"We consider Saudi Arabia’s aggression against the defenseless people of Yemen to be a strategic mistake," he said. "This aggression, which is beyond the scope of international law, has led to negative consequences for the region and the people of Yemen."

These consequences are civilian deaths, destruction of the country’s infrastructure and the rise of terrorist groups against this backdrop, the diplomat noted.

Abdollahian added that he had discussed the situation in Yemen, as well as in other countries of the Middle East and North Africa, including in Bahrain and Iraq, during a meeting with Russian presidential envoy for the Middle East and North Africa,Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov. "Our consultations lasted for more than four hours," he noted. "Russia and Iran have close stands on Yemen.".
