Petition calls for granting US citizenship to Russian opposition figure Kasyanov

Around 12,000 signatures have been collected so far

MOSCOW, May 25. /TASS/. Activists have launched a petition drive urging US President Barack Obama to grant US citizenship to Mikhail Kasyanov, co-chair of the Russian opposition party PRP-Parnas.

Around 12,000 signatures have been collected so far.

The authors of the petition say that Kasyanov, one of the leaders of the Democratic coalition, "held exemplary work for the promotion of democratic values " and "his invaluable contribution to support the US position on key issues foreign policy of Russia should be appreciated."

"We demand that the US Congress and President Barack Obama addressed the issue of granting US citizenship to Mr. Kasyanov for his contribution the development of democracy," says the petition that was started by Robert Hill, District of Columbia.

In his recent interview, Kasyanov, 57, former Russian PM turned opposition figure, accused Russia of an "aggression" and said he no doubt would return Crimea to Ukraine.
