Two killed, two wounded in Ukraine’s shelling of DPR territory

Among settlement that came under shelling were Gorlovka, Yasinovataya, Dokuchayevsk, the Donetsk airport and a number of other populated localities

MOSCOW, May 24. /TASS/. Two persons were killed and two more were wounded in shelling of the territory of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) by the Ukrainian troops in the past 24 hours, spokesman for the DPR defence ministry Eduard Basurin said on Sunday.

"Over the past 24 hours, Ukrainian troops shelled settlements in the DPR 36 times. Two DPR servicemen were killed and two wounded," he said.

He said the DPR territory had been shelled from mortars 17 times, two times - from infantry fighting vehicles, one time - from tanks, four times - from multiple launch rocket systems and 12 times - from grenade launchers and firearms.

The Minsk accords were signed on February 12, 2015 after 14-hour negotiations between the leaders of Normandy Four (Russian President Vladimir Putin, French President Francois Hollande, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko) in the Belarusian capital city of Minsk. Concurrently, Minsk hosted a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukrainian settlement.

A 13-point Package of Measures on implementation of the September 2014 Minsk agreements in particular included an agreement on cessation of fire from February 15, withdrawal of heavy armaments, as well as measures on long-term political settlement of the situation in Ukraine, including establishment of working subgroups as priority tasks.
