TOKYO, May 22. /TASS/. The first trip of Japanese national to the South Kuril Islands in the framework of the visa-free exchange will take place "at the end of May or next year," Japan’s Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said on Friday.
"The first trip of Japanese residents in the framework of visa-free exchange with Russia will take place at the end of May. The corresponding agreement was reached with the Russian side," he said.
The trip was initially planned for May 19-22. The Japanese delegation was planned to include former resident of the South Kurils and their relatives, along with official representatives. However, the organizing committee for the trip told TASS last week that "the Russian side informed that it has not yet completed internal preparations for hosting participants of the trip."
