Ukraine’s Prosecutor-General’s Office accuses lawmaker of organizing armed gang

Pre-trial investigation has determined that Sergey Melnichuk "organized an armed gang between May and September 2014 with a view of attacking enterprises, offices, organizations and individuals"

KIEV, May 20. /TASS/. Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office has accused member of the Verkhovna Rada and former commander of the Aidar volunteer battalion Sergey Melnichuk of organizing an armed gang comprising his subordinate volunteers, says the prosecutor general’s submission obtained by the Ukrainskaya Pravda online resource.

According to the document, the pre-trial investigation has determined that Melnichuk "organized an armed gang between May and September 2014 with a view of attacking enterprises, offices, organizations and individuals, as well as committing other crimes aimed at the armed and open acquisition of other people’s property, took part in this gang's activities and organized the attacks carried out by it."

Investigators say that Melnichuk organized his gang "from among subordinate combatants of the Aidar battalion as well as from outsiders.".
