LUGANSK, May 18. /TASS/. The self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) is skeptical about the idea of the United States’ joining the negotiating process on the settlement in Donbass, LPR representatives in the Contact Group on Ukraine Vladislav Deinego said on Sunday.

"I am skeptical about the idea of the United States’ joining the talks on Donbass. To involve an instigator of turmoil in the settlement process is like placing a bear in command of a bee-garden," he told the Rossiya-1 television channel.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland, who visited Kiev on Saturday, said Washington planned to expand its participation in ensuring the implementation of the Minsk agreements jointly with the European Union and the Normandy Four countries (Russia, France, Germany and Ukraine).

Meanwhile, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told TASS the United States had been demonstrating interest not only to the Normandy Format but to the Contact Group on Ukraine as well. However, he said, the Russian foreign ministry saw no point in that.

"I have spent much time studying speeches, statements, analyzing what is said in the contacts with us and our representatives behind closed doors," he said. "I have been fixing for quite a time the American party's aspiration for joining these formats, but we do not see reasons for that," he said.
