DPR says Sakhanka village comes under Ukrainian army fire

The DPR Defense Ministry has often mentioned Sakhanka as a village that comes under fire from the Ukrainian military

MOSCOW, May 13. /TASS/. The village of Sakhanka in the Novoazovsk District of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) is currently being shelled by the Ukrainian army, village administration head Alexander Pelipas said Tuesday.

"Fifteen shells have been fired close to us. We will find out whether there are wounded and the scale of destruction in the morning, when shelling subsides," Pelipas was quoted as saying by the Donetsk News Agency.

The DPR Defense Ministry has often mentioned Sakhanka as a village that comes under fire from the Ukrainian military. The head of the village has repeatedly said there are no positions of militiamen in Sakhanka.

According to a 2001 census, Sakhanka had a population of 1,093.

On February 12, 2015, participants of the Contact Group on settlement of the situation in east Ukraine signed in Minsk a document earlier agreed with leaders of the Normandy Four (Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine).

The 13-point Package of Measures on implementation of the September 2014 Minsk agreements included cessation of fire from February 15, withdrawal of heavy armaments, as well as measures on long-term political settlement in Ukraine, in particular establishment of working subgroups.

Clashes between Ukrainian troops and local militias during Kiev’s military operation, conducted since mid-April 2014, to regain control over the breakaway territories, which call themselves the Donetsk and Lugansk People's republics and constitute parts of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, have killed thousands.
