Media: Kiev ready to file documents on Crimea’s accession to Russia to Hague court

Ukraine's General Prosecutor’s Office will hand over documents to the cabinet of ministers this week.

KIEV, April 27. /TASS/. Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office has prepared to file documents on Crimea’s accession to Russia to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, deputy prosecutor general Vitaly Kasko said on Monday.

"According to the Verkhovna Rada’s resolution, materials should be handed over to the government. They are already prepared, we are now consulting foreign experts," the Ukrainian News agency quoted Kasko as saying.

General Prosecutor’s Office will hand over documents to the cabinet of ministers this week. After this, Ukraine will have to ratify the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court and then submit materials on Crimea’s accession to Russia to ICC. An ICC prosecutor will then rule on initiating a legal case.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk earlier ordered the Justice Ministry to submit Russian President Vladimir Putin’s interview to Rossiya TV channel in the film "Crimea. The Way Home" to ICC. The Justice Ministry said it found violations of international law in statements made by Putin and Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu.
