MOSCOW, April 15. /TASS/. Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai’s mission is to bring relations with Russia to the highest level, Ahmadzai’s national security advisor Mohammad Hanif Atmar said on Wednesday at talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
"It was great honor for us to meet the president of Russia," Atmar said, noting his meeting with Vladimir Putin in the framework of a session of security council secretaries of member-countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Moscow on Tuesday. "It was great honor for me to hear his warm words about Afghanistan," he added.
The advisor thanked Lavrov personally for the foreign minister’s contribution to the development of Russian-Afghan relations. "Our cooperation in the sphere of defense is very important," he noted, adding that it is aimed at helping Afghan forces in their fight against drugs and terrorist threat.
"The Afghan president’s mission is to bring the relations with Russia to the highest level," Atmar stressed.
