TEHRAN, April 12. /TASS/. Iranian security forces have seized 1.8 tons of opium in an operation in south-eastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, Fars news agency said on Sunday.
"We seized 1.828 tons of opium from drug traffickers in the city of Iranshahr today," Sistan and Baluchestan Police Chief Brigadier General Hossein Rahimi told Fars.
Three people were arrested and four cars confiscated in the operation.
Despite strengthening security measures at Iranian-Afghan border, Iran’s security forces find it increasingly hard to tackle drug smuggling. Iran remains one of the transit corridors for smuggling illegal substances from Afghanistan to Europe.
