Kiev’s military attempted tank attack on Donetsk airport — Donetsk Republic

"The attempt of a tank breakthrough was made last night in the area of the settlement of Zhobunki located on the outskirts of the airport," the Donetsk news agency quoted Basurin as saying

MOSCOW, April 12. /TASS/. The Ukrainian military made an attempt to break into Donetsk airport using tanks, spokesman for the Defense Ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Eduard Basurin said on Sunday.

"The attempt of a tank breakthrough was made last night in the area of the settlement of Zhobunki located on the outskirts of the airport," the Donetsk news agency quoted Basurin as saying.

The DPR registered numerous instances of its territory shelling from Ukrainian army tanks, the spokesman said.

"Over the past twenty-four hours, Ukrainian tanks have fired over 98 times. The neighborhoods of Spartak and Shirokino were shelled the most," the spokesman said.

"I want to note that provocations are now made by regular forces of the Ukrainian army. We made this conclusion from a statement by the Ukrainian side, which announced that it had replaced volunteer battalions by regulator forces of the Ukrainian army," the spokesman said.

Ukrainian army’s shell hits Donetsk city hospital

A shell fired by the Ukrainian military hit the building of Donetsk City Clinical Hospital No. 21, the Donetsk People’s Republic's Defense Ministry said on Sunday.

"The Ukrainian shell hit directly the surgery department of Hospital No. 21 located in 12a Kremlyovskaya Avenue. The data on casualties are being specified," the DPR Defense Ministry told the Donetsk news agency.

The DPR Defense Ministry earlier said the Ukrainian military had started to grossly violate the ceasefire accords reached in Minsk on February 12.

The Ukrainian army is both shelling the Donetsk militia’s positions and making attempts to breach the militia’s defense, the DPR Defense Ministry said.

Overnight to April 12, two infantry companies of Ukraine’s military launched an attack on the settlement of Zhobunki on the outskirts of the Donetsk airport. A direct combat engagement took place and the attack was thwarted, the DPR Defense Ministry said.

Growing tensions at the engagement line caused by provocations from the Ukrainian military may disrupt the peaceful process in east Ukraine, the DPR Defense Ministry said.
