East Ukraine militia claim Kiev forces violated ceasefire 47 times over 24 hours

One militia fighter was killed, and another three were wounded

MOSCOW, April 8. /TASS/. According to east Ukrainian militia of the self-proclaimed Luhansk and Donetsk republics (LPR and DPR), the Ukrainian forces have breached the terms of ceasefire 47 times over the past 24 hours.

"Forty-five instances of ceasefire violation by Ukrainian forces has been registered over the last 24 hours," the Donetsk News Agency quoted the the DPR defense ministry ministry as saying. "One person from self-defense forces was killed in shellings, three more were injured," the ministry added.

The settlements of Zhabichevo, Spartak, Shirokino and Gorlovka were shelled, along with the Donetsk airport and the Oktyabrsky village. Tank guns, mortars and small arms were used by Ukrainian forces in shellings, the defense ministry said.

The people’s militia of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) said Ukrainian forces shelled the positions of self-defense forces twice over the last 24 hours. "Ukraine’s Armed Forces shelled from tanks the outposts of people’s militia located near Sukhodol in the Slavyanoserbsky district," Lugansk Inform Center quoted a people’s militia spokesman as saying.

Earlier today, the Ukrainian Armed Forces press center said that on April 7, from 6pm until 12am, DPR self-defense forces shelled Ukrainian army’s positions 23 times from artillery weapons of 122mm caliber.

On February 12, negotiations in the so-called "Normandy format" were held in the Belarusian capital Minsk, bringing together Russian President Vladimir Putin, French President Francois Hollande, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. The talks lasted for around 14 hours. Simultaneously, a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukrainian settlement was held in Minsk.

As a result, the Minsk agreements were signed that envisage ceasefire in Ukraine’s south-east, heavy weaponry withdrawal, prisoner exchange, local elections in Donbas and a constitutional reform in Ukraine.
