BEIRUT, April 5. /TASS/. Lebanon’s forces have prevented a group of militants from entering the city of Arsal on the border with Syria, Al-Mayadeen TV channel reported on Sunday.
Several people were killed and injured in the fighting. The militants were moving toward Arsal from the Syrian territory through the Masyada gorge.
On April 2, Lebanon’s army repelled the invasion of Islamic State near Arsal and took prisoner their field commander.
From the beginning of 2015, Lebanon’s forces have twice repelled attacks of Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nusra on cities of Baalbek and Arsal near the border with Syria. On January 24, eight servicemen were killed in the attack and 22 more injured.
